Union Minister Jitendra Singh accused Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi of trying to take credit for the BJP-led government's promise to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. According to Singh, Gandhi's repeated assertions are merely an attempt to pressure the government and claim accolades when the promise is fulfilled.
'Even when we had said that statehood (to J&K) will be given, he (Rahul Gandhi) is saying the same thing again and again so that when statehood is given, he will say that it happened because he had put pressure,' Singh told ANI in Jammu. Addressing a rally in Poonch, Gandhi emphasized the lack of local governance, promising efforts to restore statehood after elections.
Earlier, Singh criticized Gandhi for enjoying leisure activities in Srinagar that were reportedly unsafe during the Congress administration. He praised PM Modi for normalizing the region and eliminating a three-decade-long hatred-driven politics. Meanwhile, Gandhi, at another rally in Srinagar, derided PM Modi's political stance, claiming the opposition bloc has lessened Modi's once-dominant presence.
