In a decisive move to safeguard Indian consumers during the festive season, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all States and Union Territories to intensify surveillance on dairy analogues throughout March. This initiative aims to prevent food adulteration and mislabeling amidst an anticipated spike in demand for dairy products.

Dairy analogues, defined by the FSSAI as products where non-milk constituents partially or entirely replace milk components, often resemble milk or milk products in appearance and functionality. These products, however, are subject to strict labeling regulations to avoid misleading consumers under the Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations.

The FSSAI emphasizes rigorous testing and label examinations to ensure compliance with standards, calling for an end to the misrepresentation of non-dairy items as legitimate dairy products. This proactive stance reiterates the authority's commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and boosting consumer confidence.
