The European Union's chief diplomat Kaja Kallas pressed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the need for China to recalibrate its trade balance with the EU during their meeting on Wednesday. She underscored the risks posed by Chinese companies backing Russia's military actions in Ukraine, which threaten European security.
In addition to trade concerns, Kallas urged China to stop its market-distorting behaviors, including export restrictions on rare earths. Such practices, she argued, jeopardize European businesses and disrupt the reliability of international supply chains.
Her remarks came amidst increasing EU scrutiny of China's economic policies, highlighting a broader geopolitical tension that could have lasting impacts on international trade and relations.
