The Ministry of Civil Aviation has dispatched a five-member team to Kishtwar to assess the feasibility of a proposed airport as part of the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh announced recently.
This visit, scheduled for October 28, aims to evaluate the project's potential benefits for the remote region, with a focus on boosting connectivity and infrastructure. The team will report back to higher authorities upon returning from the two-day assessment.
Singh emphasized the importance of this initiative, pointing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to developing far-flung areas. Launched in 2016, the UDAN scheme has significantly enhanced regional connectivity, operationalizing 625 routes and benefiting over 1.49 crore passengers.
India's airport network has seen impressive growth, with connectivity expansions to 159 airports, including unique infrastructures such as water aerodromes and heliports, sequencing into a robust network fueling regional tourism, healthcare access, and economic development.
