Zelenskiy Declares Emergency in Energy Sector Amid Crisis
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announces a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector following sustained Russian attacks on infrastructure. With temperatures plummeting and heating disrupted, Zelenskiy pushes for enhanced efforts to restore power and calls for more action in Kyiv, stressing the need for immediate solutions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Wednesday a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector to address challenges in power supply following persistent Russian attacks on infrastructure. The decision comes as emergency crews work tirelessly in severe weather conditions to restore electricity and heating, particularly in Kyiv.
Zelenskiy acknowledges the severe impact of Russian strikes and freezing temperatures, emphasizing the urgency of the situation on social media. He points out that the state of emergency will provide authorities with greater flexibility to resolve critical issues.
In his nightly address, Zelenskiy stresses the need for more action in Kyiv, contrasting the city's response with other major areas like Kharkiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, however, defends local efforts, highlighting the restoration of heating. Zelenskiy also announced a coordination headquarters in Kyiv, under Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, to boost electricity imports and maintain military positions amidst the ongoing crisis.
