East Horizon Pvt Limited and Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata have signed a crucial agreement to establish a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at the Haldia Dock Complex. Announced Sunday, this strategic initiative marks a Rs 260 crore investment aimed at advancing LNG infrastructure in eastern India.
The FSRU is designed to receive Liquefied Natural Gas from carriers, store it, and convert it back into natural gas for pipeline distribution. This project is intended to enhance clean energy infrastructure and support the country's ambitious goals for increasing natural gas usage.
Further technical details about the project remain undisclosed. However, SMPK emphasized that the facility would strengthen national energy security and facilitate the adoption of cleaner fuels, aligning with broader efforts to promote sustainable industrial growth in the region.
