Diplomatic Correspondence: Trump's Appeal to Xi
Donald Trump sent a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping urging him not to supply weapons to Iran. Xi replied that China was not providing arms to Tehran. Trump highlighted this in a Fox Business interview, also touching upon oil market dynamics and a planned meeting with Xi.
In a direct diplomatic exchange, former U.S. President Donald Trump wrote to China's President Xi Jinping, requesting that China refrain from supplying weapons to Iran. Trump's plea was met with a reassuring response from Xi, who affirmed that China was not engaged in arming Tehran.
This revelation was disclosed by Trump in an interview with Fox Business Network, although he did not specify when the exchange of letters took place. This diplomatic maneuver was part of Trump's broader strategy, where he threatened countries with a substantial 50% tariff if they were found supplying arms to Iran.
During the same interview, Trump expressed his expectation that the oil market would remain unaffected by the ongoing tensions involving Iran and developments in Venezuela. He further mentioned that these factors would not impact the dynamics of his upcoming meeting with Xi Jinping, indicating that while China needs oil, the U.S. does not rely on it as heavily.
