Voting in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, faced a setback as an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunctioned, causing a delay at one of the polling booths. The issue left several voters in queue, waiting as the repolling commenced early Saturday morning across 15 booths in the Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim assembly constituencies.

Voter frustration was palpable, with one elector urging officials to either resume voting or shut down the booth, citing prolonged wait times. "Why are we here if voting isn't happening? Give us clarity or let us go home," expressed the disgruntled voter.

The repolling, initiated at 7 AM, was marked by intense security measures as mandated by the election body, following BJP's accusations of previous voting disruptions. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel secured the premises to ensure a smooth process. Despite the glitch, some voters reported a seamless experience, contrasting with issues faced during the April 29 phase.

The repolling comes amid a fiercely contested political battle in the region. In Diamond Harbour, the BJP's Dipak Kumar Halder challenges TMC's incumbent MLA Panna Lal Halder, while in Magrahat Paschim, Samim Ahamed Molla of TMC is set against BJP's Goursundar Ghosh. The electoral outcome will be revealed with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
