The Himachal Pradesh government has made a significant decision to hold oath-taking ceremonies for newly elected Gram Panchayat Pradhans and Up-Pradhans at the district level rather than in Shimla. This step is aimed at decentralizing the Panchayati Raj system and easing logistical challenges for elected representatives. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu leads this initiative, focusing on administrative convenience.

The ceremonies are scheduled for June 15 across all districts, with the task of organizing them entrusted to respective Deputy Commissioners. In a notification from the Governor's office, various dignitaries including the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, have been authorized to administer the oaths in their assigned districts. Notably absent from this list is Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, unlike other ministers who have designated regions.

Industries and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan defended the decision, highlighting that there is no set legal mandate for who administers these oaths. The previous practice required representatives to travel to Shimla, incurring extra costs and inconveniences. By relocating the ceremonies, the government aims to save time and resources while supporting the decentralization of Panchayati Raj institutions. Political discussions have emerged regarding the absence of Vikramaditya Singh from the notification.
