In a sharp rebuttal to Congress criticisms, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Reddy on Tuesday accused the opposition of using the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as a smokescreen to distract from their dwindling public support and electoral setbacks. Speaking to ANI, Reddy asserted that SIR is a well-established process, previously conducted during Congress regimes.
He accused Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge of violating constitutional norms while admonishing the BJP. Reddy defended the BJP's commitment to constitutional integrity, as Kharge questioned the SIR's integrity during an INDIA bloc gathering, insisting that similar exercises were routine post-independence.
Reddy's comments follow Kharge's claims that the SIR was disenfranchising voters. Kharge sought a unified opposition front against alleged electoral misconduct. Spirited defense by BJP MP Sambit Patra dismissed these allegations as repetitive, claiming the opposition only raises such issues post-election defeats.
