In a sharp rebuke to the Election Commission of India, Jharkhand Congress President Keshav Mahto Kamlesh on Thursday accused the body of double standards. Kamlesh's comments came following the disqualification of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan from the Rajya Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh after the BJP raised concerns over her nomination papers.
Kamlesh questioned why the independent candidate Parimal Nathwani, supported by the BJP in Jharkhand, was allowed to continue despite five inconsistencies in his nomination papers, as highlighted by Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain. He argued that such actions by the Election Commission diminish faith in democratic norms and regulations.
This controversy ignited further debate when Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain pointed out the rapid disqualification of Natarajan, contrasting it with the extended time granted to Nathwani to correct his paperwork. As Natarajan's candidacy stands canceled, the BJP's Tarun Chugh, Rajneesh Agarwal, and Mahesh Kewat are poised to enter the Rajya Sabha without opposition from Madhya Pradesh.
