Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar highlighted key initiatives aimed at increasing organ donations during a council meeting on Tuesday. These initiatives include public awareness programs and a digital organ registry system designed to streamline the donation process.
In response to inquiries from MLCs about the organ shortage, Abitkar reassured that the government remains committed to addressing this crucial issue. The state has implemented measures such as an Aadhaar-linked waiting list in collaboration with the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) to organize and prioritize patient registration effectively.
Moreover, regional centers like those in Mumbai and Pune are actively participating in awareness efforts through skits, banners, radio jingles, and cinema hall advertisements. The state also hosts a mega organ donation festival, further solidifying its dedication to enhancing organ donation rates across Maharashtra.
