The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a hunger strike outside the Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of party leader Imran Khan and other incarcerated members, according to Pakistan-based Geo News.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that the strike, which began after the arrest of the party's Information Secretary Raoof Hasan and other workers, will continue daily until 8pm. Hasan was alleged to have run a digital media cell involved in anti-Indian propaganda.
The PTI central secretariat was sealed on Wednesday due to 'lack of fire and life safety arrangements,' with authorities citing outdated fire extinguishers and inadequate emergency systems, as per Geo News.
Gohar Ali Khan expressed his discontent to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq over the 'illegal actions' against PTI. Former Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser called for the release of detained PTI members, blaming the PML-N government for economic mismanagement and lawlessness.
PTI's Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan demanded the resignation of the so-called 'Form 47' government over alleged election manipulation and called for new elections. Shibli Faraz announced a nationwide protest on July 26 as part of PTI's ongoing struggle.
