Mauritius' Foreign Minister, Dhananjay Ramful, announced plans for a strategic partnership between Mauritius and India on Monday, a move to further solidify a longstanding bilateral relationship tracing back to 1948.
Speaking to ANI, Ramful commended India's vital role in Mauritius' development, highlighting the numerous successful projects supported by India. He also emphasized the potential of strengthening the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to enhance the trade benefits for both nations.
Addressing Indian investors, Ramful encouraged viewing Mauritius as a gateway to Africa, citing the rising opportunities in the continent. He praised India's leadership within the Global South, notably through Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative at the G20 Summit, and underscored the importance of maritime security cooperation under the SAGAR initiative, given the region's growing geopolitical significance.
