Bangladesh finds itself at a pivotal juncture as it prepares for national elections following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to election expert Munira Khan, this election represents the 'last chance' for a free and fair process that satisfies all involved.
Khan, speaking with ANI, pointed out the national environment's evolution since the July 2024 uproar, emphasizing the people's desire for an untainted and credible election. She acknowledged persisting challenges, particularly in maintaining law and order, raising concerns over whether conditions will allow a truly transparent election.
Despite these hurdles, Khan remains hopeful, noting the proactive efforts of the Election Commission, political entities, and civil society organizations to ensure an honest electoral process. She mentioned the incumbent government's goodwill in facilitating proper elections, albeit wary of certain factions opposed to such transparency, whose motives she questioned. The stakes are high as Bangladesh, now under an interim administration led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, approaches its February 12 election date.
