In a unanimous decision, Taiwan's Legislative Yuan passed a resolution condemning Beijing's reported interference in President William Lai's planned visit to Eswatini, slated for late April, as per The Taipei Times.

The move by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party comes after Lai's Southeast Africa trip was canceled following Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar's withdrawal of flight clearances for the president's chartered aircraft. Allegations suggest that China pressured these nations by threatening to revoke significant debt relief measures and impose economic penalties to block Lai's flight.

Critics argue this contravenes international aviation norms, compromises safety, and breaches principles of sovereign equality and noninterference. This dispute illustrates the ongoing China-Taiwan tensions, centered on issues of sovereignty and international recognition. Taiwan, asserting its democratic governance, remains resolute in fostering global engagements.
