Thailand's caretaker premier, Phumtham Wechayachai, will convene a meeting of the governing coalition and caretaker cabinet on Thursday, as reported by Thai media. This decision follows the recent court dismissal of Srettha Thavisin from his premier position due to ethics violations.
In addition to taking over the premier role, Phumtham expressed concerns regarding the future of Srettha's signature 500 billion baht ($14.34 billion) 'digital wallet' handout policy. He stressed the importance of continuity for this policy as well as the upcoming budget for next year.
Phumtham shared these concerns while speaking to prominent Thai media outlets Matichon, Naewna, and Khaosod during his overseas trip. The currency rate stands at $1 equal to 34.8700 baht.
