An Afghan national residing in Oklahoma was arrested on allegations of plotting an election day terror attack, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice. The suspect, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, aged 27, entered the U.S. in 2021 under a special immigrant visa.
According to the indictment, Tawhedi was orchestrating an attack in support of the Islamic State, searching for information on surveillance cameras in Washington, D.C., and investigating states with lenient firearm laws. His activities included online searches and visiting notable landmark webcam feeds such as those for the White House and Washington Monument.
The arrest occurred on Monday when Tawhedi and an underage accomplice attempted to purchase weapons from FBI operatives.
