The Liberia-flagged cargo vessel Pavel Grabovskiy has experienced a critical situation after a crack in its hull led to water leaking into the ballast tank. The ship, carrying nearly 3,000 tons of corn, was en route from Rostov in Russia to Turkey when the problem was detected in the Sea of Azov.

Responding swiftly, rescue teams from the Russian marine rescue centre in Taman and Rosmorport have been working to pump out the water. Fortunately, no casualties or environmental damage, such as oil spills, have been reported, according to a Rosmorport statement given to Reuters.

Meanwhile, Russia has increased inspections by ordering military divers to check ships. This comes amid recent incidents involving blasts on oil tankers frequenting Russian ports, emphasizing maritime safety concerns in the region.
