Escalating Tensions: Houthis and the Red Sea Missile Threat
Yemen's Houthis have launched surface-to-air missiles at U.S. aircraft, signaling improved targeting capabilities. The attacks align with threats by Abdul Malik al-Houthi to intervene in the Red Sea if Palestinians in Gaza are forcibly displaced. The Iran-backed group continues to disrupt global shipping and support Palestinian militants.

Yemen's Houthi rebels recently launched surface-to-air missiles targeting an American fighter jet and an MQ-9 Reaper drone, according to two U.S. officials who spoke under anonymity. Although neither of the missiles struck their targets, the incidents may suggest an enhancement in the Houthis' targeting capabilities.
Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Iran-backed group, warned in a televised speech that missiles and drones might be used against vessels in the Red Sea should the United States and Israel force Palestinians out of Gaza. This assertion comes amid heightened tensions following President Donald Trump's controversial plan to transform the enclave into a resort.
The Houthis have carried out significant disruptions against global shipping off Yemen's coast to support Palestinian militants against Israel. Over the past year, they have persistently launched missiles toward Israel in an expression of solidarity with Gaza's Palestinians, further escalating regional instability.
