The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has spotlighted growing concerns over alleged voter ID fraud, asserting that cloned Aadhaar cards might facilitate fake voter registrations. On Tuesday, TMC leaders met with the Election Commission (EC) to demand greater transparency and accountability in voter roll revisions.
Following their meeting, TMC's Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, Sagarika Ghose, expressed skepticism regarding the EC's pledge to address these issues within three months. "This poses a serious threat to electoral democracy," Ghose stated, echoing concerns initially raised by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
The party submitted a detailed memorandum, questioning how duplicate Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) numbers were issued across states and how cloned Aadhaar affects voter registrations. The delegation emphasized the need for a separate listing of voter deletions, additions, and modifications in each revised roll to uphold democratic integrity.
