The state of India's cooperative societies was highlighted by Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, revealing that 45,811 out of 8.32 lakh cooperative societies are currently under liquidation.
Shah, addressing the Rajya Sabha, clarified the status as of March 1, 2025, with 6,37,221 societies being operational but over 1.50 lakh remaining non-functional.
Since the establishment of a dedicated cooperation ministry in July 2021, significant steps have been taken to bolster the sector, aided by a growing budget that supports key initiatives for efficiency and sustainability.
