At a recent event marking 75 years since the establishment of the Indian Constitution, Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, articulated the unparalleled role of the judiciary in directly engaging with the citizenry. Speaking at the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association's gathering, Khanna highlighted how the judiciary differs from the legislative and executive branches due to its direct accessibility for all citizens, a feature crucial for enforcing constitutional and statutory rights.

He explained that unlike elected representatives or political executives accountable to a legislature, the judiciary provides an open and easy pathway for individuals to raise grievances, even against the state. The Chief Justice underscored the importance of both judges and the bar in forming what is broadly referred to as the judiciary, maintaining that without the bar, the concept of judiciary would be incomplete.

The event also saw the launch of SCAORA's e-journal and a revamp of its website. Chief Justice Khanna envisioned the e-journal evolving to offer critical analyses of Indian legal thought and jurisprudence on a global stage. The celebration was also attended by Justices B R Gavai, Surya Kant, Abhay S Oka, along with Attorney General R Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, and members of SCAORA.
