South Korea Rallies Forces for Trade Talks with U.S.
South Korea, led by Minister for Trade Yeo Han-koo, established a task force to tackle trade negotiations with the U.S., focusing on tariff and non-tariff barriers affecting various industries. The initiative aims to ease the burden on businesses and enhance coordination between government and private sectors.
South Korea took a significant step on Monday by launching a task force aimed at managing trade negotiations with the United States. The focus is on addressing tariff and non-tariff issues affecting industries, including the energy sector, while ensuring coordination with the private sector.
Appointed last week by newly elected liberal President Lee Jae-myung, Minister for Trade Yeo Han-koo acknowledged the challenges businesses and the public face due to U.S. tariff measures. Yeo emphasized the task force's crucial role in developing effective strategies, with his leadership at the helm.
President Lee, following a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, indicated a shift from his campaign stance against rushing into agreements, now aiming for expedited talks. South Korea seeks exemption from tariffs impacting its major exports such as automobiles, steel, and semiconductors.
