Delhi Police Busts Major International Cigarette Smuggling Racket

The Delhi Police dismantled a cigarette-smuggling operation, seizing a vast consignment of foreign-made cigarettes worth approximately Rs 25.76 lakh. Four individuals, including two women, were arrested. The contraband, lacking statutory health warnings, was smuggled from Myanmar to Delhi. An SUV used in the transport from Guwahati was confiscated.

The Delhi Police successfully terminated a substantial cigarette-smuggling operation, seizing a large consignment of foreign-manufactured cigarettes valued at roughly Rs 25.76 lakh, an official confirmed on Monday.

Authorities arrested four individuals, including two women, at the Noida-Delhi border last Sunday. The suspects were in an SUV used to transport contraband from Guwahati to New Delhi, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

During questioning, the detainees confessed that the cigarettes, lacking necessary health warnings, were smuggled from Myanmar. A case has been registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. Investigations continue as further revelations are anticipated.
