Romania Boosts Defense with $2.3 Billion Israeli Anti-Aircraft Deal
Romania will purchase Israeli Shorad-Vshorad anti-aircraft systems worth over 2 billion euros. Motivated by increased demand for defense post-Russia's Ukraine invasion, the agreement with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems includes six systems and additional support. The framework covers a span of seven years with initial deliveries expected in three years.
In a substantial enhancement to its national defense, Romania has inked a deal exceeding 2 billion euros for Israeli-made Shorad-Vshorad anti-aircraft systems, the defense ministry confirmed on Monday.
Amid renewed global focus on defense, spurred by the conflict following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, European nations are ramping up their military expenditures. Sharing a significant border with Ukraine, Romania has experienced multiple instances of Russian drone debris falling within its precincts.
The agreement with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, recognized for Israel's Iron Dome with U.S. support, involves procuring six integrated systems over the next seven years, including training, ammunition, and logistical support, with the first systems to be delivered in three years.
