Delhi Police have captured two Nepalese nationals, Bishwanath Barai and Ganga Ram Choudhary, on charges of smuggling prohibited Chinese e-cigarettes into the national capital. Officials recovered 2,970 e-cigarettes, concealed in white plastic sacks, from the duo near Ajmeri Gate as they attempted to discreetly distribute the contraband.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan disclosed that the contraband was shipped from China to Nepal and then transported to India using tourist buses. Barai, who operated shops in Nepal, stated during interrogation that individuals named Pinku and Amit facilitated the e-cigarette imports from China to Nepal.
The police, acting on a tip-off, laid a trap that led to the arrest of the suspects. Both accused confessed to previously distributing e-cigarettes across several locations in Delhi. Investigations are underway to uncover the Chinese supply chain and other culprits involved in this international smuggling operation.
