Belgium has decided to acquire defensive kamikaze drones from a Latvian firm as part of a strategic defense enhancement, the Defense Ministry revealed. Defense Minister Theo Francken announced in Riga that Belgium signed an agreement with Latvia's Origin Robotics to procure autonomous 'blaze' drones. These advanced drones are designed to neutralize hostile drones, fortifying Belgium's defense infrastructure. The procurement is part of a larger anti-drone budget of 50 million euros, which includes plans to further invest 500 million euros in advanced radar and jamming technologies.

Belgium's defense priorities are influenced by the geopolitical situation in Europe, particularly concerning the EU's consideration to utilize frozen Russian assets at Euroclear to support Ukraine. Russia has issued warnings of reprisals if such measures proceed, underscoring the tense dynamics of regional politics.
