During a cybersecurity townhall on Sunday evening, Haryana DGP OP Singh presented a novel approach for safeguarding citizens against online fraud: the 'PVR model'.
Described as a 'behavioral vaccine', this method encourages individuals to 'Pause, Verify, Report' when faced with suspicious digital communications. The objective is to provide people with a crucial two-second edge to avert potential financial disasters initiated by cybercriminals exploiting emotional triggers.
Highlighting the prevalence of cybercrime, Singh detailed various tactics scammers use, including fear, urgency, and curiosity. He emphasized the need for a simpler, citizen-friendly counter-toolkit and assured that Haryana has bolstered its cyber safety infrastructure, including a 24/7 helpline and specialized cyber police stations, to support victims effectively.
