United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed serious concern over the rising tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. His remarks were conveyed by his spokesperson on Monday.
Guterres called on both countries to take steps to de-escalate the situation and recommit to an agreement reached in October. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric relayed the Secretary-General's urgent appeal to reporters.
The concern comes after Thailand confirmed that its fighter jets carried out an airstrike on Cambodia. The attack was purportedly an effort to weaken Cambodia's military capabilities.
