The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has upheld the preventive detention of an individual accused of sharing anti-national content on social media platforms. Justice Sanjay Dhar reaffirmed the detention order under the Public Safety Act (PSA) against Waseem Ahmad Dar, also known as Leepa, issued by the Kupwara district magistrate.
The court found that the apprehensions of the detaining authority were based on reports from multiple agencies about videos and posts uploaded by Dar on Facebook, justifying his detention to prevent further actions threatening state security.
Observing that no formal charges or FIR were lodged against Dar, Justice Dhar dismissed the plea contesting the detention on procedural grounds. He concluded that the petition lacked merit, emphasizing the legality and necessity of the preventive measure.
