In a bid to address rising concerns over illegal immigrants, the Varanasi Police recently conducted a significant verification drive in the Sigra area. The investigation followed reports of suspected Bangladeshi families residing in the locality.
Deputy Commissioner of Police T Sarvan confirmed the findings, stating that the families were actually from West Bengal, not Bangladesh, and had resided in Sigra for several years. This operation was part of a broader initiative aimed at identifying unauthorized immigrants in the city.
Labeled "Operation Torch," the seven-day campaign seeks to scrutinize residency status across multiple locations. Important documents are being collected to ensure legitimacy, and the police have vowed stringent action against any irregularities discovered during their thorough examinations.
