The federation of Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers' unions has deferred its planned December 12 strike, opting instead to join the state-wide agitation led by JACTO-GEO starting January 6, 2026. The move comes amid demands for the reinstatement of the older pension scheme, among others.

JACTO-GEO, a coalition advocating for workers' rights, will initiate an indefinite strike in January with a 10-point demand list, including the withdrawal of the contributory pension scheme. A hunger strike will be held on December 13 to further press these demands.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N Muruganandam has warned state employees of pay cuts if they proceed with the strike. District collectors have been instructed to ensure attendance and discourage the workforce from participating in the planned protests.
