North Korean leader Kim Jong Un praised the 528th Regiment of Engineers of the Korean People's Army for their 'heroic' service during a mission in Russia. The unit was lauded for their conduct during a 120-day deployment as part of the Russia-Ukraine war, according to KCNA.
Despite losing nine soldiers, the unit was celebrated with the Order of Freedom and Independence, acknowledging their sacrifice. The ceremony in Pyongyang honored their contributions, with state honors awarded to the fallen as Heroes of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Kim emphasized the regiment's loyalty and efficacy, a sentiment echoed during a gathering attended by military and party leaders, as well as soldiers' families. The event underlined North Korea's continued support for Russia during the ongoing conflict.
