The BJP has characterized the Supreme Court's recent observations regarding the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) petition as a serious indictment of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration. The petition alleged obstructions during ED's raids at the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) premises.
The Supreme Court described the ED's claims of obstruction in its investigation as 'very serious,' and agreed to assess whether state law enforcement can intervene in central agencies' probes into grave offenses. It stayed the FIR filed against ED officials following the January 8 raids.
The judiciary issued notices to Banerjee and West Bengal's top officials. Reacting, BJP's Amit Malviya cited the court's remarks as a stinging observation questioning state interference in central probes, highlighting concerns of potential lawlessness.
