In a significant blow to Maoist insurgency, 52 Naxalites surrendered to law enforcement in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district. Among them, 49 carried a collective bounty surpassing Rs 1.41 crore.
The defectors included 21 women affiliated with several prominent Maoist committees, and their decision to surrender was influenced by the state's rehabilitation initiatives under the Poona Margem program.
This surrender follows recent trends in nearby districts and part of the government's broader strategy to eliminate Naxalism by the end of the fiscal year.
