The second round of discussions between the Assam state government and Karbi society, aiming to address recent tensions in West Karbi Anglong district, has been postponed. This delay results from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Conflict has arisen between Karbi and Bihari communities over alleged encroachments on Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) and Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) lands. A meeting on December 26 attempted to find a resolution, with further talks planned but now deferred.
Chief Minister Sarma reassured that the concerns of the Karbi society are paramount and reaffirmed the commitment to resolving issues through dialogue. Tensions remain high, with violence recently erupting and resulting in deaths and injuries. The army has conducted flag marches in affected areas to restore order.
