Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, M K Stalin, has proposed amending the Indian Constitution to bolster federalism and state autonomy. This call for a 'structural reset' was made during the presentation of Justice Kurian Joseph's committee report on center-state relations.
Stalin emphasized that meaningful federalism is based on trust and autonomy, noting that India's federalism could benefit from a reassessment. By advocating for a constitutional amendment, Stalin envisions governance that responds more directly to the realities of Indian citizens.
Stalin's views align with past DMK leaders, including C N Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, who promoted federalism as central to maintaining national integrity while advocating for greater state autonomy. The DMK, he affirmed, remains committed to this balanced approach.
