North Korea aims to build a 10,000-ton destroyer and develop covert underwater weaponry, state media revealed on Saturday, just before Chinese President Xi Jinping's anticipated visit. Kim Jong Un supervised a naval test on Thursday, urging immediate deployment of ships like the Kang Kon and Choe Hyon.
The Rodong Sinmun newspaper highlighted Kim's ambition to enhance naval strengths to prevent nuclear conflicts. Analyst Hong Min noted the unprecedented scale of the destroyer plan, as North Korea showcases its military might to Xi.
Kim emphasizes the need for significant military capabilities across all domains. Xi's visit, first in nearly seven years, aims to reaffirm ties. This realignment follows Kim's push to substantially grow North Korea's nuclear stockpile, evidenced by a recent nuclear materials factory site visit.
