Tensions in the Baltic: Russia's Show of Naval Strength

Russia's navy has escalated military activity in the Baltic Sea, engaging in extensive drills that featured unguided missile launches and bombing runs. These exercises, reported by Interfax, coincided with significant U.S.-NATO naval exercises in the region.

The NATO BALTOPS exercise, the largest in the Baltic Sea for 2023, involves 20 vessels from 15 countries and 6,000 personnel. Meanwhile, Russia's drills on June 8–9, involved aircraft and missile ships near its Kaliningrad territory, a pivotal military base.

President Vladimir Putin, responding to NATO's maneuvers, warned in May that Russia remains fully equipped to repel any attempt on Kaliningrad, underscoring the heightened regional tensions.
