In a closely watched electoral contest, Union minister and BJP candidate Sanjeev Balyan has been defeated by Samajwadi Party's Harendra Singh Malik in the Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha seat by a margin of over 24,000 votes, according to the Election Commission.

Election Commission data, updated at 7.30 pm, showed Malik securing 4,70,721 votes (43.64%), while Balyan garnered 4,46,049 votes (41.35%). The Bahujan Samaj Party's Dara Singh Prajapati, who came in third, received 1,43,707 votes (13.32%).

Malik, a 70-year-old regional Jat leader and former Rajya Sabha MP, emerged victorious after the constituency went to polls on April 19 in the first phase of the general elections. Balyan, who had served as Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in the Modi government, had previously won the Muzaffarnagar seat in 2014 and 2019.
