The announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has been hailed as a triumph for democracy by Congress leader Alka Lamba. The party has officially launched its campaign for the polls, focusing on critical issues such as unemployment, inflation, and poverty.
According to Lamba, the elections mark the restoration of democracy in the state after a decade-long wait. The Mahila Congress has initiated its campaign with the aim of securing a full majority. Lamba will attend a women's wing event in south Kashmir’s Anantnag as part of the campaign activities.
Top Congress leaders, including President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are scheduled to visit Kashmir in September to bolster the campaign. Discussions regarding potential alliances and seat-sharing arrangements are currently underway, Lamba revealed. In a recent leadership change, Tariq Hameed Qarra has been appointed as the JKPCC president, replacing Vaqar Rasool Wani.
