The diplomatic discord between Venezuela and Brazil has taken a dramatic turn, with Venezuela accusing Brazilian authorities of jeopardizing their bilateral relations. Venezuelan officials claim that Brazil acted under U.S. influence by opposing Venezuela's bid to join the BRICS bloc at the recent summit in Russia.
The tensions highlight ongoing friction related to Venezuela's disputed July presidential elections, which Brazil and other countries criticized for a lack of transparency. Venezuela summoned Brazil's chargé d'affaires, Breno Hermann, voicing strong disapproval of the comments made by Brazilian foreign policy advisor Celso Amorim.
In response, Amorim acknowledged the discomfort but attributed the strain to Venezuela's refusal to publish transparent election results. Despite diplomatic attempts by regional leaders to mediate, the situation remains unresolved as Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro tightens his control.
