In a swift political turn, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has clarified his statements surrounding the 'Shakti' scheme, which offers free bus travel to women. His comments came after Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized him for suggesting a review of the scheme.
Speaking to the press, Shivakumar insisted that his words were twisted and emphasized his compliance with party leadership's directives. He accused the BJP of politicizing the matter, asserting that there was no intention to shut down the scheme and that discussions were merely considered.
Furthermore, Shivakumar dismissed criticism from Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, labeling it as irrational. Kharge had emphasized that the Karnataka government remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers and safeguarding temples, contrasting this with the BJP's previous governance record.
