On Tuesday, Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi sharply criticized Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's parliamentary assertions that there is no significant rise in unemployment or inflation. Gandhi questioned the minister's disconnection from reality, suggesting that she might be 'living on a different planet.'

This rebuke came shortly after Sitharaman addressed the Rajya Sabha, underscoring the Union Budget's emphasis on transitioning India into a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, with a focus on sectors such as agriculture, MSMEs, and rural development. Subsequent to the parliamentary session, Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi exited the Parliament, marking the conclusion of the proceedings until the next session on February 13.

In her detailed presentation, Sitharaman highlighted the budget's priorities that include initiatives for the 'Garib, Youth, Annadata, and Nari,' introducing new schemes and reforms aimed at agriculture, MSMEs, and rural upliftment. The finance minister argued that the Union Budget prudently balances developmental goals with fiscal responsibilities, noting a significant reduction in indirect taxes under GST.
