A military court in Uzbekistan has sentenced ten individuals to lengthy prison terms for the attempted murder of Komil Allamjonov, a former presidential press secretary, according to the country's supreme court press service on Wednesday.
The audacious attack on Allamjonov's vehicle last October spurred speculation about a potential power struggle in Uzbekistan, home to over 37 million people, due to the authorities' silence surrounding the incident.
The accused, whose sentences range from seven to 23 years, included high-ranking officials from the security services and the interior ministry. The mysterious plot has garnered interest beyond Uzbekistan's borders, especially after an arrest warrant was issued for two Chechens in Russia, though Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has denied any involvement.
