The Kremlin announced on Thursday a mutual political commitment between Russia and the United States to work towards a resolution of the Ukraine conflict. The discussions between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump herald a potential diplomatic solution.
The leaders engaged in a phone conversation lasting over an hour on Wednesday, during which President Trump reported President Putin's interest in ending the nearly three-year-old conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that both nations believe negotiations could lead to a resolution.
While Peskov indicated that further discussions would be needed to see tangible progress, he noted it was too early to determine the involvement of European countries in the anticipated peace talks.
