Trump Urges Support Amid Potential U.S. Government Shutdown
President Donald Trump warned of a potential government shutdown if the House fails to pass a funding bill, though he remains hopeful. Despite GOP control, some hardliners resist the move. Trump encouraged Republicans to support the resolution to maintain government operations until the fiscal year ends.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concerns on Sunday about a possible government shutdown if the House of Representatives does not secure enough votes for a temporary funding bill. However, Trump is optimistic that the measure will be approved, stating, "It could happen. It shouldn't have happened, and it probably won't."
The continuing resolution (CR) aims to fund the government at current levels for the rest of fiscal year 2025, ending on September 30. With Republicans controlling the House, a six-month stopgap spending bill was revealed on Saturday, and voting is expected on Tuesday.
Trump signaled his backing of the resolution, urging Republicans to support it through social media. His endorsement has swayed some hardline Republicans, who previously opposed similar funding bills, to consider backing the resolution in the narrowly divided House.
