In a heated session of the Lok Sabha, proceedings were halted after members of the DMK vocally protested comments made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Pradhan had labeled the Tamil Nadu government as "dishonest" regarding their stance on the Prime Minister Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.
Pradhan asserted that Tamil Nadu initially consented to the scheme's implementation, requiring adherence to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. However, the state purportedly reversed its decision, causing friction and accusations of misleading constituents, playing politics, and jeopardizing students' futures.
DMK leader Kanimozhi expressed dismay over the minister's language, stating that Tamil Nadu couldn't fully adopt the NEP, citing issues including the three-language formula. Although Pradhan agreed to retract an offending word, he maintained openness for dialogue, while underscoring agreements made with other non-BJP states.
