The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly defended its decision to impose President's Rule in Manipur, arguing it was a necessity rather than a choice. The party asserted that constitutional provisions made it imperative as the state assembly session could not be convened in a timely manner.
During a debate on grant demands and the Manipur budget, BJP leader Biplab Deb emphasized the progress witnessed in northeastern states, attributing significant infrastructure development to the Modi government's efforts over the past decade. Deb highlighted the improved identification and connectivity of northeastern regions as a testament to this growth.
Deb also pointed out that 75% of areas in the Northeast are now free from the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. Additionally, he lauded the government's initiatives for societal benefits, including health insurance, regional languages in education, and the landmark step of reserving 33% of legislative seats for women, which the UPA regime failed to achieve.
